The Rumors Of SquareSoft-
There are few people in this world who have not heard of
SquareSoft. They are mostly known for their award winning Final
Fantasy series. But they've have made other numerous games as
well. Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, Super Mario RPG to name a
few. But there are many controversies surrounding this grand
company. I will list several rumors concerning SquareSoft and
advise you on them.
RUMOR: SquareSoft will make a Final Fantasy 64.
STATUS: False. Square has decided that CD is the way to go and
will never, ever again make a cartridge game. If you wanna play
the new FFs, you'll need a PlayStation. SquareSoft does have a
long standing of great cartridge games, but CDs provide a better
maximum usage and this is Square's decision
RUMOR: Chrono Trigger 2.
STATUS: False. To my, (and the world's) current knowledge,
SquareSoft has no plan to make a sequel to one of their greatest
games ever. Will they ever make a sequel? Maybe. No one can to
absolutely sure yet.
RUMOR: Final Fantasy: The Movie
STATUS: True. Square Honolulu is currently working on a full
length CGI movie for theatrical release in the US and Japan. Also
there are several home video animated movies for sale here and in
Japan. Anime-Style.
RUMOR: Final Fantasy 2, 4, and 5 (Japanese) release in US.
STATUS: Maybe. Square has signed a deal with Eidos
Interactive. FF7 was released for the PC. They may put FF2, 4, 5
maybe be released for the PC. But I wouldn't hold my breath
waiting for it.
RUMOR: Final Fantasy 7 for Macintosh release.
STATUS: False. Sorry, it has nothing to do with the IBM and
Mac war, it's just that SquareSoft just doesn't have the time to
pull it off.
RUMOR: Final Fantasy 9 already in development.
STATUS: False. There is no mention of FF9 at this time. Square
is still in the process of making FF8. (demo already available
for FF8) Will there even be a Final Fantasy 9? Probably.
SquareSoft knows how to keep it alive by using a new story each
time, and making it a little different each time. As far as I'm
concerned, there could a Final Fantasy 64 someday... It just
won't be for Nintendo or a very long a time at that. SquareSoft
is in the top game developer companies in the world. Still going
strong, they'll probably be around for a long time. All of the
above "rumors" are correct as of Oct. 6, 1998. So if
this editorial is still up when or if these rumors change, I
apologize in advance. Good Night.
