Title: Jet Moto 2

Genre: Racing Number of players: 1 or 2 Memory space: 1 block
Release date: 11/11/97 Publisher: Sony Developer: SingleTrac
Compatible peripherals: Analog, Standard controller

GRAPHICS: D+ (7)

The first Jet Moto had inferior graphics even for its time. One year later, its sequel is released, and the graphics still remain the same. By today's standards, this games graphics are primitive when compared to Gran Turismo or most other racing games. Textures in Jet Moto 2 are very plain and not very colorful. All of SingleTrac's games suffer from the same graphical problem, and look like first generation PlayStation games. As anyone who's played the first Jet moto will tell you, Jet Moto was known for its incredible track design. This sequel pales in comparison. I'm not saying the track design is terrible, just not as creative as the as in the prequel. The bikes still look the same for the most part, which is not necessarily bad, since they were quite original, but they could have been made better for the sequel. In this game, you get about half as many bikes as you did in the first, meaning that the graphics get repetitive faster. I hope if Jet Moto 3 ever comes out, that the developers will look more into these problems.

As you can see from these screens, the graphics don't look very nice.

SOUND/MUSIC: C (7.5)

The music in Jet Moto 2 is a mixture of rock, techno, classical, country, and metal, so it is very varied, but that is not necessarily good, since about 85% of it stinks. It is mostly uninspired lame stuff that was put together in the last minute. The sound is pretty good. Hitting a wall causes a sound that's close enough, as is everything else. The bike's sound does accurately prtray that of a jet engine. Overall, the sounds are very average.

GAMEPLAY: C+ (8)

This game is more like an extension of the first Jet Moto rather than a whole new game. It does support analog, which is a bonus, but otherwise it controls like the original, which is good. This game starts easy enough, but then becomes terribly difficult. Less bikes means less fun. There's a total of 11 tracks for you to master, most of which are practically impossible to navigate. 2 player mode can be played with either a vertical or a horizontal split-screen. There are some cool details, such as being able to ride the walls of a tunnel if you're going fast enough, which add a little bit to the experience, but they're not good enough to save this game. It's dissapointing that nothing entirely new was added to help the gameplay and save it from mediocrity.

FUN AND REPLAY VALUE: C- (7.25)

The tracks are less interesting and there are less drivers and bikes. Though this is a pretty big problem, the game itself is fun and incredibly hard, which adds to the replay value. The original Jet Moto was more fun all around. Jet Moto 2 has "lack of imagination" written all over it. I hope this is looked upon if another sequel is to come out.

What's that on the ground? You tell me.

WORTH BUYING: NO

If you own the original Jet Moto, I don't see any reason to buy this other than to get more tracks if you're bored of the first one's. If you don't have Jet Moto, you should get it and leave this one behind. Just about the only improvement this game made over the original is that it has analog control, which is cool, but other than that, it's not half as good as the original.

OVERALL: C- (7.25)

An extension more than a sequel, get the original first and then decide if this "sequel" is worth your money.
