OVERVIEW:
Final Fantasy 7: Great game or recycled storyline? SquareSoft.
STORYLINE: An ex-member of the highly elite band of agents known as
SOLDIER goes mercenary. Then he gets caught up in a quest for the life force of
the Planet, known as "Mana." The "Empire" is out to get all the "Mana" and use
it for their own purposes. Throw in an evil super villain and TWO ladies Vying
for the affection of the main character, and you've got the most highly
successful game in the Final Fantasy series.

| "The angle of battle can get tricky sometimes and the
Camera control is a bit lacking." |
|
GRAPHICS: The Full
motion video is a totally amazing experience! The in game graphics are put to
shame by the FMV, however. The angle of battle can get tricky sometimes and the
Camera control is a bit lacking. The walk about mode is not very interactive,
and the character doesn't have a clean-cut slate of abilities. (i.e., Sometimes
the character makes huge jumps one minute, but then if the end of the game was
right over a fence, the character couldn't go there cause someone had the nerve
to put a doggone FENCE in his path.
SOUND: Amazing. To this day, I
can't find a game that has music that better fits the feel of the game. Music is
definitely the most revolutionary part.

PLAYABILITY: While it is
traditional to many other Square games, it is still tried and true excellent.
The "Esper" concept is also well implemented. On the down side, after one gets
used to the more 3D feel of the game, it doesn't feel all that new and exciting
(This may have something to do with Sony's mysterious carbon copy of the
familiar SNES controller.)
FUN/REPLAY VALUE: After round one of
Chocobo breeding, I never want to see that part of the game again. Other than
that, after a while leveling up in FF7 is about the same as FF3.
WORTH
BUYING: No, here is a little trick. Borrow it from a fellow who just got done
breeding Chocobos. They will never ask for their game back. I guarantee it.
OVERALL: 8.4 A few grievous typos I've been meaning to mention. Mana is
actually called Mako in this game and the "Empire" is Shin-Ra corp. this time
around. Also sorry about Espers, I meant to say Materia. Aside from my jibes,
this really is a good game. I'm just pointing out that it seems like it got a
wee little bit over exaggerated without being super revolutionary however, the
weaknesses in the storyline and graphics are easily compensated for by the sound
and play control.
