Title: Armored Core

Genre: Fighting Number of players: 1 or 2 Memory space: 1 block
Release date: 10/25/97 Publisher: Sony Developer: From Software
Compatible peripherals: Standard controller, Arcade stick, Analog

*Sorry, no images available at the moment*

I always wanted to play as a giant mech and blast the crap out of stuff. But before Armored Core there were either cheesy American games that were just modified tanks that moved slower than a snail in a snowstorm or import games with sleek fast moving mechs but of course they never came to America which means I’d have to import it just to play it. I don’t have that kind of cash. Then Armored Core came around. Not only does it have the perfect medium of mech types but now you can choose from tons of parts and have more choices of mechs than you do playstation games. Although now that has to be wrong.

Graphics:7

The graphics aren’t definitely the best around but they still hold their own. They’re pixilated but you don’t notice it unless you spend tons of time setting up your sniper attack and position like your truly. The areas themselves get semi-pixilated from far-off but not so bad that you can’t tell a door from another mech(although camouflage can do that....) speaking of camouflage The color schemes for the mechs are truly incredible. You can literally choose from any color scheme imaginable and even make different parts different colors(WexTip: To change parts on the custom color screen press Triangle)The biggest seller is explosions. I have not seen a in-game explosion this good. Ever.

Control-7

No analog minus a point. Made before analog was around so that ups it a half a point. They also switched the arm buttons around from their optimal performance(See: Robo Pit) Flying is near perfect except for the fact they’re missing a way to stay at a locked height.

Sound:9

Nothing is really wrong with the sound. The SFX don’t break up or anything major and the announcer’s voice actually changes with your head. The music in general isn’t present much which is is a double-edged sword because I really don’t want techno music blaring at me when I’m fighting a mech 100 times taller than me(500 times us or around there) The music will get on your nerves in the menus though.

Innovation:10

Its a mech with replay value ,a (PSX) add-on pack(PSX meaning another $40) and more parts than you can shake a blaster at. The plus feature and the hidden parts make it a perfect

Fun Factor:9

Your a mech that’s colored pitch black with a huge cannon on your back and a laser blade that can kill another mech of the same body configuration as you in two hits and your on top of a building fire sniper shots at some little guard mech that can’t even fire upwards. What score do you think it should get?

Overall-8.4

If you have lots of time to devote to this game and have friends that have this along with an urge to blow stuff into scrap metal(and who doesn’t?) buy this game. It’s outdated but so is Mario bros. and Mario 64 and we play them. It’s a Majors Recommendation(MR).
